The weather today is scorching hot with no sign of relief. Cooking today seems like an impossible task. Plus, any chance I get to go out and try new places I am happy. Last minute my friend and I decide to go out for brunch- my favorite meal. 😋
In an instant she suggests Sam’s Morning Glory Diner. Most of the time I pick the places thanks to Yelp. This time she is adamant about Sam’s. So after a 15 minute ride into the city, I sit down in the garden of the diner. It’s a small establishment with loyal clientele. There is a laid back feel to it and on a midweek morning no hustle and bustle to accommodate people. The staff was friendly and attentive. The only downside is that they are cash only, so be prepared.
Anyway, I digress. As soon as we sat down we ordered coffee and began to talk, 5 minutes in they came to take our order. Prior to going I read reviews and everyone kept raving about their French toast. Naturally, I chose their Monkey French toast which is French toast with caramelized bananas and strawberries and topped with whipped cream. It was delicious 😍😍😍😍 Then again I am a sucker for French toast. My friend went for the fritatta with potatoes and a biscuit. It looked delectable. I can attest that it was 😻.
Lastly, the food is reasonably priced expect to pay between $10-$15 per person. Less, if you do not get specialty coffee. So if you are in South Philly, go visit Sam’s Morning Glory Diner. It will not disappoint. It has all the charm of a small diner with the feel of bed and breakfast. Thanks for reading!
The day is July 10,2014. Walking up to the Silver Diner you feel transported back to a time of eating establishments covered in shiny aluminum and neon lights that serve malts and burgers. However take a step through the front door and you feel a sense of a time past with a bit of a time still to come. You are greeted with large flat screen television over the counter playing,on this day, a world cup game. You are then welcomed warmly by the hostess as she escorts you to the booth that is awaiting a new set of guests.As you get settled into your seats,you remove your sunglasses,jackets,or whatever protective wear you have decided on for the day, you are able to observe your surroundings a bit more closely and find the ultimate retro touch is right there in your booth : a jukebox. A JUKEBOX. YOU ARE OFFICIALLY IN HEAVEN. For a quarter you can reminisce about a time past as far back as the 1950’s or as recent as the early 2000’s.Be careful, one blogger in particular burned through a dollar real fast. (Maybe it was me….). Now for the most important part of all this….the menu….the bearer of all the goodness a diner has to offer.This diner in particular has a colorful menu with BIG FONT and lots of delicious pictures. You can choose to have Breakfast in the middle of the day, or a burger for dessert, whatever your heart desires. And for those whose heart doesn’t desire a heart attack at 6pm for dinner, no worries, the Silver Diner offers a variety of options for their Vegan,Vegetarian and Gluten Free friends. Two bloggers in particular however craved some breakfast for lunch (yes…we did…’cause we are rebels like that). H, (thats me ) decided on some simple french toast, but boy was it anything but simple. It was Caramel drizzle french toast. Three halved pieces ( 6 total) of Brioche french toast, griddle cooked to perfection ,which was then drizzled with caramel and as a kicker , a small serving of maple syrup on the side. I know what you’re thinking, “H, caramel AND maple syrup? Are you crazy? Thats a cavity just waiting to happen!” Well I say to you,CALM DOWN. Im sorry that was rude…please…relax . It isn’t bad…i promise..there is a little bit of caramel , so you get the taste and you can get it in every bite, but the food is not swimming in it. The maple syrup, when drizzled over the top is the perfect addition, still not overly sweet.Its french toast with a little extra something. Now…Z on the other hand went BIG. Go big or go home..isn’t that what they say? right?…right. Z went for the Banana stuffed French toast . I’ll let you drool over that for a minute…………………. OK? Good…clean yourself up….you missed a spot…..good. So her dish included 2 thick pieces of Brioche french toast. Between which was slices of banana and what appeared to be mascarpone cheese. Cheese lesson: Mascarpone is an Italian cheese , which is typically found in the traditional Italian dessert Tiramisu , however it is also often used in the savory setting as a substitute for butter in risotto. It originated in the area between Lodi,Italy and Abbiategrasso , Italy sometime between the late 16th century and early 17th century. Back to the dish , It was also topped with large slices of banana , but also had chocolate chips and drizzled with sweet cream and caramel. In Z’s words ,” It is perfectly sweet , not “It makes me wanna vomit sweet”.
Overall, we quite enjoyed our visit to the Silver Diner. The atmosphere was great,the location was super clean and tidy ,the staff was polite and kind, and the food….OH THE FOOD…was phenomenal. If you’re in the Cherry Hill, New Jersey area , I would strongly encourage making a stop into the Silver Diner at anytime of day. I can say wholeheartedly that you will not go wrong no matter when you stop in for a treat. Happy Eating!
A great, healthy, alternative to ice cream is the best invention ever– Frozen Yogurt. It has less calories, offers a variety of flavors, and makes your father squeal like a five year old at a candy store. On our outing today we went to Kiwi Frozen Yogurt in Cherry Hill, NJ.
The decor screams ice cream parlor! See what I did there? Ha! Enough of that. The great thing about frozen yogurt shops is that you get to make your own creations and then pay for it.
Be careful how much you place in the bowl because they will get you at the register.
As a dessert lover here are some tips for a Frozen Yogurt outing:
1. The Fro-Yo should be proportioned
equally, so you can get the most for your money.
2. Go light on the toppings, so that you can savor the Fro-Yo.
3. Experiment with flavors: Have fun trying new things.
4. When in doubt, get the cake batter flavor, it is yummy!
5. Do not feel guilty for the indulgence we are all entitled to a cheat day!
6. Lastly, if you post a picture on Instagram or Tweet with the hash tag #kiwifrozenyogurt you get one ounce of yogurt for free. Can’t beat that 🙂
On a hot Friday in July, cooking seems like a torturous task. So when the opportunity presents itself to go out and enjoy a delicious meal with the family, we must take it. The meal of choice today was burgers and our place to indulge ourselves was none other than Bobby Flay’s restaurant, Bobby’s Burger Palace. There is something to be said about the craftsmanship of a classic American burger. Bobby’s Burger Palace takes the traditional and adds a modern twist to it. Not to mention the mouth watering Beer battered Onion rings, so drooling over here!
Today I went for the L.A. Burger, a great combination of well-done beef, cheese, and avocado. Now here is the big news, for me at least, you can CRUNCHAFY your burgers for FREE. Yes, if you are indulging go all the way and add a layer of potato chips to your burger. You have not lived until you have tried this! It was heavenly. Additionally, the onion rings and a side of fries with their Chipotle dipping sauce gives the meal an extra kick that had this food lover dancing for joy.
I do recommend you go with a big appetite because you do not want to waste a single bite. My father thoroughly enjoyed his first time at Bobby’s Burger Palace making sure to eat all of the French fries before we left. He was close to ordering one of their delicious smoothies, however, the promise of frozen yogurt stopped him.Next time you are in the mood for a burger try Bobby’s and make sure to get the side of onion rings. You will not regret it!
